Description

1996 DODGE VIPER RT/10 1996 Chrysler had always intended the car to be a modern-day Cobra, an Anglo-American hybrid purpose-built to beat the best from Europe, and the roadster not only retains but amplifies the essence of that genre: It combines the prerequisite buffeting open-air ride, rock-concert noise levels, stiff sport-tuned suspension, basic amenities, and a host of idiosyncrasies collectively referred to as character. Plus it delivers 400-plus horsepower, has massive tires, and corners with enough force to make it feel like a street-legal race car. 96 VIPERS The changes, however, go deeper than cosmetics. With the goals of shaving excess weight and improving high-speed control, the Viper team was able to trim about 200 pounds from the car while improving the frame's torsional rigidity by about 25 percent. New aluminum suspension components are coupled with firmer springs and fine-tuned shock valving. The familiar 8.0-liter OHV aluminum V-10 engine still resides under the new Viper's forward-lifting hood. Through careful fine-tuning to the exhaust and air-intake systems, the Viper team has squeezed out another 20 horsepower and 15 pound-feet of torque, upping its totals to 420 horses and 480 pound- feet. Along with this comes an upgraded cooling system and an OBD II-compatible emissions-control system . At real-world speeds, the '96's extra power is nearly invisible. With 400 horses at your beck and call, another 20 tend to get lost in the mix. Either way, getting into the throttle is like unleashing the power of the Biblical Beast. And with a wide, flat power curve that seems to go on forever, it sometimes seems like the Viper's six-speed transmission has about four more gears than it really needs. THIS VIPER RT/10 IS IN GREAT CONDITION FOR THE YEAR AND VERY RARE, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CALL US WITH ANY QUESTIONS 281.893.1134
